SurfingOur stunning coastline offers a good variety of beach breaks to suit all levels of experience. The main beach is one of the most popular surfing locations, but there are a series of great breaks right along the Bay of Plenty coast.
The break directly out front of Cutterscove Apartments is referred by local as ‘Tay Street’. During warmer months, daily surf lessons are on offer at ‘the main’ and Tay Street by the NZ Surf School and other professional instructors. Tay Street is also home to New Zealand's first artificial surf reef - directly across the road from your Mount Maunganui apartment accommodation!
Take the short trip by boat to Matakana Island (across the harbour entrance from Mount Maunganui) - well worth the trip. This long and exposed shoreline tends to produce larger and more hollow surf than Mount Maunganui beaches.
